TRANSCRIPT

Welcome to the podcast. The last time we were together, we started a conversation about your purpose and your calling in life. And in episode one, we really just spent our time focusing on your purpose.

We talked about the fact that everything that's made has a purpose. Everything that's made is made for a reason, including you. You were given life for a purpose.

And that purpose is to have a relationship with God, and then to grow in that relationship over time. That is your purpose. If you missed that first episode, I want to encourage you to go back and listen to it or re-listen to it, because today, we're going to pick up where we left off at the end of episode one, and we're going to start talking about your calling in life.

It's important for you to wrap your mind around the difference between your purpose and your calling. Remember, your purpose is to have a relationship with God and to grow in that relationship. And that's never going to change.

Your purpose will always stay the same. But your calling, what's your calling all about? What is a calling?

We hear people use that terminology a lot, especially in the church world. Have you heard that amongst believers? You'll hear people talk about being called.

What are they saying? If I say I'm called to do something, what am I saying? What do I mean by that?

A calling is when God invites you to do something that he wants you to do. That's what a calling is. A calling is a role that God has designed for you to embrace in your life.

Something he's called you to do. Let me go over that again real quick before we move on. A calling is when God invites you to do something that he wants you to do.

He has a role for you to play. He's designed or prepared something for you to embrace in your life. Why would God call you to do something?

Let me give you a couple of reasons that I know for sure. And there could be more, but here's a few that I know, just from my own personal experience. The first one is this.

A calling will grow and develop you in your relationship with the Father. A calling will grow your relationship and your knowledge of Jesus as your Savior and the Holy spirit as your teacher. A calling will develop you.

A calling will prune you and mature you in your faith walk. A calling will help you mature and grow up as a child of God. You know, if you've got little children, as they start to grow, you ask them to do certain things that will help them mature.

You give them responsibilities. You give them things that will hold them accountable and make them responsible, right? Well, it's the same with God for us as His children.

As we grow up and mature, God will call us into things to help develop us. When God calls you into something, it can also help expose and uncover some of the greater things that He's put inside of you, things like your spiritual gifts or your talents and your abilities, your likes and dislikes, your strengths and weaknesses. All of those will be exposed as we walk with God through different callings in our life.

Again, just like having children, you know, one reason you have them do band and try sports and try art is you're letting them discover what it is that they're good at. What are their talents? What are their abilities?

What are things that they like and don't like? What are their strengths and weaknesses? Well, a calling for God on your life as our heavenly father calls us into these things, it's for a similar purpose.

That's part of the reason he calls us to things. Another reason that God will call you to do something is so that you can be a light or a witness to someone who the Lord's trying to reach. That's another important reason he would call you to something.
